Creating an open standard for your FIF2 image format could be extremely valuable because open standards play a major role in whether a technology survives, spreads, and gains trust within the software and research community.

One of the biggest problems of earlier fractal image compression systems was that many implementations were proprietary and heavily patented. This limited adoption because developers, companies, and researchers were hesitant to build tools around a format they could not freely implement or modify.
